EmpowerHer: Grants for Women's Independence
Program Objective:
To support women in achieving financial independence and personal empowerment through targeted grants, entrepreneurship training, and mentorship opportunities.
Program Components:
1. Grant Funding
- Microgrants of $1,000–$5,000 for starting or expanding small businesses, vocational training, or essential needs during transition (e.g., from domestic abuse situations).
- Eligibility: Women aged 18+, with a focus on single mothers, survivors of domestic violence, and women from marginalized communities.
- Application Process:
- Online/physical application form
- Short business or personal development plan
- Two references or community endorsements
2. Skills & Business Development Workshops
- Monthly workshops covering:
- Entrepreneurship and small business planning
- Financial literacy and budgeting
- Job-readiness and resume building
- Digital skills (e.g., Excel, email marketing, e-commerce platforms)
3. Mentorship & Coaching
- Pairing grantees with women entrepreneurs and professionals
- Monthly one-on-one or group mentoring sessions
- Peer-to-peer support network
4. Support Services
- Free legal aid consultation (especially for custody, divorce, and domestic violence)
- Childcare support during trainings/events
- Mental health check-ins and support circles
Funding Sources (Suggestions):
- Local government or city council grants
- Partnerships with banks, credit unions, and corporate sponsors
- Crowdfunding or community donation drives
- Philanthropic foundations focused on women’s empowerment
Success Metrics:
- % of grantees who start or grow a business
- % increase in self-reported financial independence
- Number of workshop participants and skills certifications earned
- Long-term follow-up: employment or entrepreneurship outcomes after 6-12 months
